OUR STORY

Now entering its 11th year, ChutneyFest is Canada's fastest-growing celebration of Indo Caribbean culture, heritage, and music. Delivered annually by the Canadian Indo Caribbean Festival (CICF), it has become the City of Brampton's Marquee event over the last two years, but a destination for anyone that enjoys the sights and sounds of the West Indies. It has also become a growing annual attraction for tourists from across North America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia. Attracting more than 3,500 visitors annually, and over 330,000 online in 2021, this year's event promises to be ChutneyFest's biggest to date bigger audiences, more headliners, and now a full two days in person! ChutneyFest offers a unique fusion of Indian and Caribbean influences, bringing together musicians, dancers, performers, and drummers with roots in chutney soca -a blend of traditional Hindi and English lyrics, mixing soca beats with traditional dholak drums. It also features steel-pan artists, classical singing, and tassa drumming. ChutneyFest is most celebrated for its music and music competitions, bringing together international headlining acts as well as emerging new talent - all to one stage! Activities and features for all generations make this free, all-day family event in July a destination for not just West Indians, but anyone who loves music, dance, and fun. In 2020 & 2021, in response to COVID-19, CICF rapidly moved ChutneyFest to virtual delivery, moving its production to multi-site coordination so that it could still showcase talent from Brampton and the GTA to Trinidad, Guyana, Suriname, Holland and more, allowing audiences to still enjoy their favorite headliners from around the world. It brought a full day of events right into people's homes, reaching more audiences than ever before - double, in fact!

Join The Celebration: Supporting The Preservation of Indo-Caribbean Culture in Brampton

The mandate of the Canadian Indo-Caribbean Festival (CICF) aligns strongly with and supports the City of Brampton. Since its first year of operation, the CICF has worked to create a more strategic fundraising effort, which includes securing more in-kind support, identifying granting opportunities, and contracting external fundraising capacity to participate in funding rounds. Since 2013, the Canadian Indo-Caribbean Festival has been committed to celebrating, honoring, and highlighting the best of what the Indo-Caribbean community has to offer. Initially referred to as Chutney Fest, the festival was the first of its kind in Canada to showcase local Indo-Caribbean talent through music, art, and entertainment, supporting local talents and giving them a platform to share and express their work and craft. We would like you to partner with us, to lend your support to a largely unprecedented cultural event like ours, and support a continuously growing West Indian community. Support in the form of a sponsorship level or donation , which would allow us to offset some of the expenditures that come with carrying out a large-scale event like ChutneyFest.

ChutneyFest Allows Sponsors To:

  • Venture into an untapped demographic of Indo-Caribbeans, aged 13-55
  • Receive direct consumer interaction to market products or services, allowing for real-time market research and consumer engagement
  • Gain brand exposure across ChutneyFest’s social media channels, and on-site signage to increate your brand’s visibility across the GTA.
  • Be invited into exclusive networking opportunities with other business, community leaders and influencers.

The ADAPT Program

Artist Development And Performance Training Program

Join Our FREE Program Today!

A highly anticipated and recently launched community workshop that is hosted by CICF is known as the – ADAPT (Artist Development And Performance Training) Program. CICF offers this workshop in order to provide Indo-Caribbean up-and-coming performers and artists located within Brampton the ability to develop performance and marketing skills. In 2022, CICF undertook the challenge of providing artists with marketing and performance needs that are usually self-taught via our pilot project called the ADAPT Program. The ADAPT Program has three integral stages such as; social media training, performance and vocal training, and live performance and post performance content. Each of these workshops targets key components to successful artists as assistance in developing social media marketing techniques are provided, establishing ways to build a lasting impression with the audience members, as well as taking a deeper dive into implementing these skills onto the main stage at both ChutneyFest and DiwaliFest.
